01 — WHY IT MATTERS
For a one-off shoot, it doesn’t matter much where your filmmaker lives. Someone can fly in, shoot for a day, and fly out.
For monthly work it matters completely. Four hours on location every month, sometimes split into an hour a week, is not something anyone runs from another state. The travel alone would cost more than the retainer.

That range matters more than it sounds. Most video work in this state is shot within twenty minutes of the CBD, and the businesses that need someone willing to drive six hours are the ones nobody else is servicing properly.
The practical value of the local knowledge is unsentimental. I know where the power is, which corner of a workshop has usable light at 2pm, how long it takes to get from Port Adelaide to the Hills on a Friday, and whether a site needs a permit before I turn up.
